First Impressions

With winter in full force here in Minnesota, I've been wondering when the winter Walmart Beauty Box would be arriving, and lo and behold here it is! Donning the title "Winter Wonders", I couldn't wait to see what new products I just might discover for this chilly time of year. Secretly I am hoping for some powerful hand creams and a bath bomb, but who knows what might be in store! Read below to see what I received.

This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the self-care collection offered for winter. With 13 different options listed, you are guaranteed to receive six great finds. Being a mix of skin care, hair care, and make-up, the choices were rounded out quite well, but just what size items did they send?

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier, Watermelon and Tangerine - Estimated Value - $3.00 - Buy a pack of 6 for $8.98

We will just get the Liquid I.V. powder out of the way at the beginning. After receiving a packet of this salty hydration multiplier in every box for the last 2 years, I think I've hit every flavor and still haven't found one I have enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, I have used a few of them and they did come in handy when our family had Influenza, but I would like to try a different product at this point, and now we received TWO! How is everyone else feeling about this?

Rael Beauty Miracle Patch - FULL SIZE - Retail Value $5.98

The first full-size item I received in this month's box was a 24 pack of miracle patches. These invisible spot covers come in two different sizes (10 mm and 12 mm) and work to protect blemishes from dirt, draw out fluids, and provide a waterproof barrier. The package states that these are virtually undetectable so you can confidently wear them even during the day, but I'd have to disagree with that statement. I had a couple of zits pop up due to holiday stress, so I applied these little stickers and while they do blend in okay, my son asked, "Mom, what the heck do you have on your face?!" I can say, after 4 hours, my blemishes did seem a little less red and a little smaller in size, but I definitely wouldn't wear them out in public unless you want to answer some questions.

Hask Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner - FULL SIZE - Retail Value $1.98

The next item I received was this large foil packet of Repairing Deep Conditioner. Used to strengthen and restore dry and damaged hair, this may look like a sample, but each packet contains enough for 2-3 uses, and can be purchased in this quantity online. Free of sulfates, paragons, silicones, phthalates, gluten, and drying alcohol, this deep conditioner helps reduce split-ends and leaves your hair really soft and nourished. To use, massage into clean, wet hair, and leave on for 10 minutes and rinse well. I have really fine hair, and some conditioners leave it looking really greasy, but this wasn't one of them. While I kept it off of my roots, my ends looked and felt much better than before I used it, and it made for a perfect self-care evening when paired with a bubble bath and candle.

CoverGirl Simply Ageless Lash Plumping Mascara - FULL SIZE - Retail Value $9.97

I hoard all of the mascara, so I was excited to give this version a try. Utilizing a fluffy brush, this mascara not only instantly plumps and volumizes lashes, but also contains a serum and primer. I loved the applications this mascara provided, and felt it compared to my current mascara that costs almost triple what this does, but noticed it comes off a little too easily. I headed outside to shovel in some snowglobey snow, and in I came, looking like a raccoon. Okay for everyday, but don't plan on yawning or crying without some smearing happening!

Cetaphil Healing Ointment - Estimated Value $1.00 - Buy a 3 oz container for $9.97

Now here is what I'm talking about! Because of the crazy winds and harsh temps, my hands are out of control dry, so I was super pumped to receive this tube of Cetaphil Healing Ointment. I have used Cetaphil for years per my Dermatologists recommendation, but have only recently discovered this lifesaving ointment! Used to protect and relieve your dry, chapped, or irritated skin, this does go on a bit greasy, but gives immediate relief. I slather this goodness all over my hands before bed and slip a pair of socks over to keep it from smearing onto my bedding, and wake up with baby soft hands. Yay!

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream - Estimated Value - $0.45 - Buy a 15 oz container for $14.12

Here I received another Cetaphil branded item, and because this is a brand I know well, I was happy to have a travel version of this moisturizing cream. For very dry to dry, sensitive skin, this cream claims to hydrate for 48 hours and fully restore skin barrier. With a super light natural scent, my kids who are very sensitive to fragrance, use this with no problem, and it has really helped keep my youngest sons eczema at bay. My favorite feature is that it doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy. Soaking in right away, you can carry on with your day without worrying about leaving smudges on everything you touch.

Verdict

With an on-time delivery, and three full sized items, the Walmart's Winter Beauty Box was actually quite impressive. The calculated value of this $6.98 box was $22.38, which is over 3 times the cost of the box. I felt like the curation of this box was pretty typical for winter, and it included items I was hoping for. Overall, I was happy to try the new mascara, hair mask, and patch covers, without paying full price.

What did you think of the winter box? Did you get the same variation, or something different?

I contacted them and they replied that they were curating my box to suit my profile (ha ha) and that they were experiencing shipping issues.
I got:
2 – Liquid IV – Orange one is hard as a rock. :.( Watermelon is gross! $0.
1 – Aunt Jackie’s Curl Boss Gel 3oz – great for travel. $8.12
1 – Physician’s Formula Butter Mascara – nice size for the purse. $6.75
1 – Happy Place Bath Bomb – Same one a couple boxes ago. Not a fan. $0.
2 – Cetaphil Moisturizing Creme – why 2 of the same item???? $1
Gel and mascara alone have me feeling pretty satisfied… as long as the gel isn’t stiff and crunchy – which they claim it isn’t.
Value of items I will use: $16 ‘ish.

I would like to know where my December box is? The money was taken out of my account but no box has arrived

Haven’t gotten mine either. Well actually my 2 boxes because when I chose the upgrade last time, I ended up with a second subscription. I got an email that I was billed on Dec 8th. Sure hope the delay is because they are tailoring to my profile – sure hasn’t seemed like it in the past.

I was billed on Dec 8th. Got a notice on Dec 16 that my box will ship soon. No box yet, Jan 22. Account says next billing is Feb 8 for the “Spring” box. Gonna be interesting if I get billed for my Spring box before receiving my Winter box. I mean, that’s weird right?

Lacey

Mine too. It’s been over a month since money was taken from my account but still shows as unfulfilled. I emailed and they said they were packing my box with my profile in mind and also shipping delays. Ummm the boxes are basically the same and there are no shipping delays if not shipped. Hoping to get it before I pay for the next one.

Did you get yours? Still waiting on mine too. Usually mine actually comes on time.

I’m also tired of seeing these Liquid IV packets in everything. I did try one, once, and it had such an awful chemical taste that I just toss them out now. I also have an opinion about getting these as a beauty box item – and that would be “no thank you”. I realize that beauty starts with good nutrition but that’s not what we’re looking for when we subscribe to a beauty box.

They don’t taste great. But they were a lifesaver when we all had the flu in my house.

Anyone know the bonus gift for new subscribers?

The coupon code is SPATTY2022, so I suppose it’s one of those, a tiny spatula to remove all the product from jars etc. I see they sell for $4.98 at Walmart.

Just wanted to chime in and say I actually love liquid iv! My favorite flavors are lemon lime, watermelon, passion fruit, Concord grape, green apple kombucha, and their new immune support wild Berry (not immune support tangerine). I am pretty picky about how I prepare it though- I need it to be icy cold water. The powder doesn’t mix as well in cold water though, so I actually bought a $10 milk frother on Amazon and use that to mix the hydration supplements. It only takes a few seconds but it’s kinda fun to use so I usually go about 10. Lastly, every single flavor I’ve tried has had the flavor improved by a fresh squeeze of lemon or lime. I will say when I first started drinking it I found the taste to be quite strong, so I did half a packet per 16 oz of water instead of the full packet. Making it my high maintenance way, though, and I consume at least one a day and it’s really helped me to get more in control of staying hydrated.

I will never be sad to see liquid IV in a sub box. Like you, I enjoy nearly all the flavors. Concord Grape is my favorite. I usually get the more common Strawberry or Tangerine in these Walmart boxes. They come in handy after workouts and are a lifesaver during flu season. Jessica, I agree with you, icy cold water makes all the difference in taste! I’ll continue to subscribe to this box for the hydration packs and the Cetaphil products that I seem to get each time.

I love them too, Jessica! So helpful when feeling under the weather.

Thanks for the tips Jessica! I love the milk frother idea and never thought to add lemon or lime. I’ll have to give that a try the next time I receive one. My husband just ended up sick again, so our little stock pile came in helpful yet again!

I felt the same way about getting TWO packets of the drink mix that I don’t like and won’t use. My son likes it, so I will give them to him.
I upgraded my box for winter, and I really like everything in it. I got a Hairitage satin pillowcase, a full size of the Cetaphil healing ointment, the full size Covergirl mascara, a sample of Thayer’s toner and a sample of Completely Bare shave gel. I paid $11.56 for the upgraded box, which was well worth the cost because I got two full size products, the pillowcase and the other three samples, two of which I will use.

Thanks for commenting Connie! I am sooo loving that pillowcase. My husband tried it and hated the cold slinky feeling, but that’s actually the part I look forward to!!

I, too, am over the IV drink powder. (also received 2) I can’t drink the salty stuff, not even the name brand in a bottle. I really wish they would stop sending them. I got the same mascara but read bad reviews about it smearing, which is disappointing to hear you had the same experience. I got the Cetaphil moisturizer, a package of teeth whitening strips, a small bottle of African black soap (with tea tree – gave to my daughter) and a 1.7 oz tube of Marc Anthony super strength leave in conditioner. (plus the mascara and 2 IV tubes)

If the mascara had been better, I would have been happier with the curation.

Thanks for commenting MZBEV. I agree on the mascara front. I really wish it didn’t smudge. I did wear it to school one day (when the forecast didn’t call for snow) and it was fine, but this Minnesota weather can’t usually be trusted!
