First Impressions

What a pleasant surprise! After receiving the summer Walmart beauty box only weeks ago, I wasn't expecting the fall box to arrive for months - but look what I found on my doorstep today! Just in time for the start of the school year I was very interested to see just what might be included in this season's box. Read below to see what I received.

This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the entire self-care collection offered for autumn. Debuting ten items, and one mystery item, you will receive six items in total. Being a mix of hair care, skin care, and make up, the choices were rounded out quite well, but just what size of items did they send?

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier, Yuzu Pineapple - Estimated Value - $1.50 - Buy a pack of 6 for $8.98

Surprise, surprise, look at this month's first item. I think I mentioned in the summer review that for about the past 2 years we have received a package of Liquid I.V. powder in every box. While I don't care for any drink mixes, I find these packets way too salty. This month's version actually contains coffeeberry energy extract, Cognatio coffee fruit extract, and I-theanine for what they say will help support brain function, mental clarity and focus, but I'd rather just drink my morning coffee for caffeine. In past, there have been mixed reviews about receiving these packets, as they are quite expensive and a lot of people like them, but I will be putting this in the "free" pile at work for someone who will enjoy this more than myself.

Hempz Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Creme - Estimated Value - $2.59 - Buy a 17 oz container for $19.48

Hempz has been around for quite some time, and though I've seen it around, I've never actually used it. Coming in a nice sized bottle, I appreciated the "Triple Moisture" version, as my skin tends to start drying out as soon as summer is over. Quite creamy in consistency, my freshly shaven legs ate this lotion right up. With an extremely fruity scent, I would be hesitant to rub this on severely dry skin, but appreciated the fact that it did tame down quite quickly. Rubbing in well and not leaving an oily or greasy residue, I am happy to have a portable lotion that may one day be considered a life saver!

Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Diamond Lip Plumper - Estimated Value $1.95 - Buy a 5 ml container for $6.78

Lip glosses are my jam, so when I caught a glimpse of this lip plumper, I couldn't wait to try it out. Not only do I appreciate a clear color, but I also happen to love the Physician's Formula brand. Leaving my lips just a tiny bit tingly and a lot shiny, this little guy fit perfectly in my jean jacket pocket and has everything I look for in a gloss. Did it make my lips plumper? It's hard to say, but I still would re-purchase it!

Peach Slices Snail Rescue All-In-One Oil-Free Moisturizer - Estimated Value $0.99 - Buy a 2.8 oz container for $16.99

If I had to rate my Walmart Beauty Box items like I do my Universal Yums box ones, this snail mucin would definitely earn the award for the weirdest! Honestly, when I first read the package, I concluded this was in some way helping rescue snails, not that it was actually made of snail secretions! While husband and kids were totally grossed out, I did apply this to my face. While I only had enough for a few applications, my skin did feel a little softer after using. With no gross scent, I'd maybe try a larger size container of this. Does anybody use this regularly? What made you decide to switch from your previous moisturizer to snail secretion filtrate?

Hairitage Headband - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $5.88

I have to admit, when I opened this season's box, as soon as I caught a glimpse of this headband, I left the rest of the contents on the table and tried this on. If you didn't know, I love hair accessories, and rarely leave the house without one. Yes, I am 34, and at one point in my life I was told to leave the accessories at home once I hit 27, but I decided life is too short, and that if you enjoy something, wear it, period. This cable knit, ivory headband has a lovely little knot on the top for some extra volume and is perfect for fall. While I typically wear headbands when my hair is fully up, it did look cute with a side bun, and I was exceedingly happy to add it to my ever-growing collection.

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion - Estimated Value $0.96 - Buy a 16 oz bottle for $16.47

The last item I received was admittedly a bit of a letdown after the lip plumper and head band, but still proved useful. CeraVe is a brand I have bought in the past, and it does work. With a little bit thicker formula than the Hempz lotion we received, this doesn't have any fragrance, which proves beneficial to ultra-dry skin. It also is a little greasier feeling and takes more work to rub in, but does feel extra moisturizing, which is something I definitely need once the weather turns.

Verdict

With an early delivery and a full-sized hair accessory, Walmart's Fall Beauty Box impressed me this season. The calculated value of this $6.98 box was $13.87, which is about double the price of the box. I felt like the curation of this box was decent for fall, and the variety of items was on par. Overall, I was quite pleased and definitely more impressed than last season!

What did you think of the fall box? Did you get the same variation, or something different?

Not sure what is going on with the Walmart Beauty box but they don’t seem to be getting better. It looks like I got a different box than what others are receiving. Mine contained:
– Liquid I.V. Hydration (yet again!)
– Maybelline Colossal Curl Bounce mascara – 0.5 oz
– Thayers Rose Petal Toner – sample on card/single use
– Garnier Fructris Sleek & Shine shampoo & conditioner – 3 oz each
– Hairitage headbands – 2 pack – one ivory and the other a red/bronze color. Seem to be made of nylon (pantyhose-like material)
So overall, not a terrible box but not great either. I’ve notice that for the past few boxes I’ve received, there aren’t many of the items on the pamphlet that have been included. One plus is that I didn’t get the snail rescue (sorry folks but that sounds kind of gross to me).

Very disappointed! Again! I do like my fancy scünci but I could care less about the Liquid I.V., ANOTHER CeraVe Moisturizer, ANOTHER Cetaphil scrub, some weird brown NYX butter gloss, and an itty bitty foil sample of toner. I would have liked a bigger toner sample, the Hempz lotion, the mascara, the snail rescue, and the curl bounce. I usually get the same crappy samples and not the cool ones pictured.

My fall box is SO bad I’m quitting except there’s just one little problem…the link in the email doesn’t work! Then I try directly clicking on two links and neither of them work either. This is the worst of the Walmart boxes and they have been going steadily downhill for the past year. I was hopeful they would improve but after getting the tiniest foil “packet” I’ve ever seen, half the stuff that was in the review above, and giving up on them I’m out of here!

All I was interested in was the Lip Plumper. I didn’t get one.
I got:
Headband = migraines so donating. $4.88
LiquidIV – Meh $1.35
Mini NYX Gloss – Not a fan. Sticky. Color makes me look like a corpse. $2.40
Mini Milani Mascara – I will use. $5
Foil pack shampoo conditioner – I don’t use shampoo or conditioner. $0.30
Foil pack Thayer’s Toner 1 pad – $0.21
Total “Value” $14.14.
Paid $7.60.
Value of what I’ll use – $6.56
Box was a loss again this season.

I received the same exact box as you did and also only wanted the Lip Plumper! Ugh

I think you’re Never to “old” for hair accessories or any accessories for that matter! The headband looks cute on you so age doesn’t enter the equation! 😉 I’m 46, almost 47(Oct 27) and despite my teenagers protests I’ll wear a big ole scrunchie in my ponytail if I want one, LOL !!!
I think for the price this is a pretty good box. I love the full size item and the gloss, the Hempz original lotion is my favorite, the CeraVe is great for winter dry patches and to keep in my purse.

My skincare mainstays are snail mucin and cica. I’m in my 60s and no one believes my age. My usual snail product is COSRX snail mucin 92%. I get mine on Amazon for around $26. A little goes a long way. I have combo skin and it works great on all areas, no stickiness or residue. It soaks in great and leaves skin baby soft. K Beauty is a treat and truly helps skin. No snails are harmed during collection of mucin. Simple search will show the process.

Dea

Alice, can you share what cica product you use? Please? I’m 54 and a sunscreen fanatic, but I’m at the stage where that’s not enough. Thank you.

Alice

Hi, Dea, I use Meebak Cica Cream Age-repair Moisturizer. I get mine on Amazon for about $20. It is about a 2 or 3 oz jar and it goes a long way. I also like the r.e.p. all in one cica, but it’s harder to find. I’m sunscreen advocate, too, and never go outside without it! Sunscreen is key as well. I use all different kinds, as lo g as it’s 30 or higher. Hope this helps

Becca

Thanks for sharing Alice! I really appreciate it! ❤️

You’re welcome, Becca!

Becca, this box was made for you with that headband! I would say the Hempz moisturizer is valued at $7.50 because that is how much they cost at Ulta when you buy that size! I just got the birthday cake to try.
K beauty is big into the snail products. I find them sticky on my oily t-zone.

Becca

Thank you for commenting, Jody E! I do love me a headband. I have actually searched for a headband subscription but haven’t found one geared to larger heads 😂 Good to know about the moisturizer! How was the birthday cake scent?

I use the peach slices snail moisturizer every day! I work with farm animals so I’m outside sweating a lot, which leads to a lot of breakouts, and a combo of dry and oily skin. The snail moisturizer helps dry skin but isn’t oil-based, and it helps clear up acne, so it’s literally my go-to!

Becca

Thanks for commenting, John Cox! I’m intrigued with your snail moisturizer results. I may have to invest in a bigger container to see how it suits my acne prone jawline…. Thanks again!

Dea

The volume of cosmetic products claiming to contain snail mucin is so large and their price is so low that I am convinced that the stuff is not squeezed out of snails at all. Most likely, the same or a similar chemical compound is synthesized in a commercial lab for pennies from such mundane elements as hydrogen and nitrogen. So don’t worry about it and enjoy the products just as they are. No one wiped, squeezed, or murdered a single snail to produce the masks and moisturizers. That would not be cost-effective.

Tina

Snails are actually not harmed in this process, what they do is have the snails crawl across a grate that has slots in the bottom and the mucin falls off the snails into the grate which falls into a tray underneath the grate, I watched a video of how products are made with snail mucin.

Becca

What a process! Thanks for sharing Tina, I am going to have to look this up! Incredibly intriguing!

Becca

Thanks for the info Dea! I am envisioning the snail mucin collection process and am honestly picturing Turbo scooting off. Eekkk! 🤣
