Each monthly box from StoryCaptain comes with an informational card that also serves as an activity guide, as well as stickers. This month's theme was Taking Flight, which focused on giving thanks for our feathered friends. The activity guide provided ideas for 3 fun crafts which included making turkey handprints, bird nests, and bird sightings. The sticker sheet came with 19 individual stickers that could be used to build a custom silly turkey.

This book is hands-down one of our favorites that we've received from StoryCaptain. My little one loved playing with the feather tail pages and the artwork was downright adorable. The length of the book was perfect for a one-year-old, and the text wasn't overly complicated, which I appreciated. The whole book followed the tune and theme of the nursery rhyme Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed which made it even more fun for Maddie to read and sing along to. This book is definitely going to be a showcase piece in her toddler library.
Shh! We Have A Plan by Chris Haughton — Retail Value $10.99

It's not that this book was bad, it was just a bit odd compared to other books we've received from StoryCaptain. The premise is that 4 little hooligans are trying to capture a bird and their plans go haywire as the birds have an uprising against them in the end. It was humorous, but we prefer books that have a larger range of colors and words. I don't think Maddie will appreciate this book as much as she will once she's a bit older, but, funny enough, she just learned how to "Shh" so this will reinforce applying her new nighttime command.
Hello, World! Birds by Jill McDonald — Retail Value $8.99

This was another gem sent by StoryCaptain! Maddie has recently expressed more interest in learning about different animals, specifically birds, so this was a win. The book was generous in its showcasing of various types of birds, and provided vibrant images with a moderate amount of text. Maddie was able to keep her interest a bit more with this book than others due to how intricate the birds were, which I thought was really cool to see. It'll be fun to hear her mimic the different birds within the next few months and know them by name.

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $24.90 including shipping. The 3 books that we were sent in the 0-3 age range for November retail at $27.97 and the additional cost for stickers probably cost around $1-2. If you take into consideration the standard price of shipping on Amazon or other suppliers, then the total retail value is slightly higher than what you pay each month. Not to mention, you receive a carefully curated selection of books, and some fun activity prompts!
